Paul Thomas Chocolates

Watch the chocolates being made at Paul Thomas Chocolates in historic Dahlonega.  Fine milk chocolate with a large assortment of fillings, nuts, caramels and more! As an avid consumer of Paul Thomas Chocolates I can testify you'll be back for more! Formally the locally famous Hoffman Chocolates of Palm Beach county Florida, he has changed nothing but the location, bringing fine made quality chocolates to the North Georgia Mountains for all to enjoy.

All it takes is one bite to assure you of the quality, with an explosion of taste in every bite! Like hand-dipped truffles such as French, coffee, Irish cream, orange brandy and more in light and dark chocolate. The sight of the water-fall of warm smooth chocolate cascading down on various fruits and nuts and the truffles being hand-dipped in large vats of rich chocolate. The smells, sight, sound and feel is only surpassed by the delicious taste of the various product samples so generously offered by Paul and Lori.

Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Twain's timeless classic sweeps us down the mighty Mississippi as the irrepressible Huck Finn helps his friend Jim, a slave, escape to freedom at the mouth of the Ohio River. Their adventures along the way are hilarious, suspenseful and heartwarming, bringing to life your favorite characters from the novel-the Widow Douglas and her stern sister, Miss Watson; the uproarious King and Duke, who may or may not be as harmless as they seem; Huck's partner in crime, Tom Sawyer, and their rowdy gang of pals; Huck's drunken father, the sinister Pap Finn; the lovely Mary Jane Wilkes and her trusting family. Propelled by an award winning score from Roger Miller, the king of country music, this jaunty journey provides a brilliantly theatrical celebration of pure Americana.

Gold In The Arts

There is an exciting new Gold Rush in Dahlonega in the performing and visual arts. Bluegrass and mountain music remain staples in the community.  Musicians often congregate for impromptu picking and singing. You can hear a variety of music styles live each weekend at venues on the historic Public Square. The Arts scene isn't limited to just music, though. Live theater thrives in the Historic District and there is an abundance of artistic talent in the surrounding mountains. The works of many local and regional artists and crafters—in every medium imaginable—can be found in and around Dahlonega. There are a number of interesting studios, galleries and even restaurants on the Public Square which showcase these works regularly, and several annual events invite local residents and visitors to tour the artists’ studios and to watch the artists at work against the backdrop of the charming historic square. Unassuming studios and galleries dot the countryside.

Horse Back Riding

Several opportunities are available for horseback riding in the Dahlonega area. Local resorts offer trail rides and riding trails exist in the Chattahoochee National Forests to give riders a range of trail options. Chattahoochee Backcountry Treks, Gold City Corral & Carriage Company, Sunny Farms North and Applachian Adventures, in addition to trail rides, offer riding instructions, dinner wagon cookouts and other services.

Dahlonega and Lumpkin County are the heart of Georgia's mountain lakes and waterfalls region.

The Raven Cliffs Trail is a 5 mile round trip along Dodd Creek to the cliffs where the creek plunges through a narrow crack in the cliff. The trail is mostly easy walking through beautiful rhododendron and hemlock forests following the creek by numerous small waterfalls. The Raven Cliffs Trail and is located within the Mark Trail Wilderness Area.
The trail head is located 30 minutes from Dahlonega on the Richard Russell Scenic Highway 3 miles north of Highway 75 near Helen, Ga.

Dockery Lake Trail

The Dockery Lake Trail is a short (0.5 mile) easy trail around a 6 acre mountain lake. With its picnic and fishing areas it is an excellent area for family picnics and is especially good for taking young children for a walk.
The 3 mile Miller Gap trail which joins the Appalachian Trail at Miller Gap has its trail head at the Dockery Lake parking area.

A nice trail down Waters Creek to the confluence of Waters Creek and Dicks Creek leaves from the Dockery Lake parking lot also and follows the Miller Gap trail down hill to Waters creek. Cross the creek and follow it down stream. Shuttling is required and a car can be left at the parking area near the Waters Creek Ranger Check Station on FS 34 off US Hwy. 19 near Turners Corner.Dockery Lake is a Forest Service Recreational area located 9 miles north of Dahlonega on Hwys. US. 19 and Ga. 60. in the Chattanooga National Forest. Take a right at the Forest Service Sign onto FS 654.

The Desoto Falls Trail is located in Lumpkin County in the Chattahoochee National Forest Scenic Area by the same name. The trail leads to 2 different falls on Frogtown Creek. The first falls is .3 miles down stream from the trail head, the second is .75 miles upstream from the trailhead. The trail originally to a third and larger falls has been closed because of the danger posed by slippery rocks.
Desoto Falls can be reached by taking US 19 N from Dahlonega 4 miles past Turners Corner where Hwy 129 joins Hwy 19.

Benton Mackaye Trail

The BMK-DRT undulates, rising, falling and looping much like the AT until it begins the descent to the Toccoa River. A long footbridge spans the waterway. From the river the BMK-DRT rises and follows the ridge of Tooni Mountain. Leaving Tooni the paths descend and cross State Road 60 (a busy road), then climbing Wallalah, Licklog and Rhodes Mountain, where the Duncan Ridge veers off the east. From this point the BMT enters some of the most beautiful country, and the most difficult portion of this long trail south of the Cohutta Wilderness. The trail crosses State Road 60 once again during this portion of the hike.

Long Creek Falls Trail is an almost 2 mile round trip trek that offers an easy-to-moderate climb along the combined Appalachian, Benton MacKaye and Duncan Ridge Trails to a beautiful waterfall that flows fully even in the middle of the summer. For through hikers the falls are only a short distance from the main trail making this side trip well worth the few minutes (and steps) to the falls.
