Tour de Georgia Returns to Dahlonega!
For the second year in a row, Dahlonega will be a "Finish Line City" for the Dodge Tour de Georgia! On April 22nd this world-class, professional cycling stage race will roll into the Historic Square of Dahlonega ending the first "mountain" stage. At that point, 120 cyclists will have covered 404 of 650 miles and climbed a total of 18,953 feet in elevation over 5 mountain passes. Last year, the Dalton to Dahlonega stage saw fierce competition along its 134 miles and was awarded "Ride of the Year". To celebrate this exciting event, Dahlonega will host its own "Tour de Dahlonega" with family-friendly events beginning at 11 am on the square. While waiting in anticipation for the cyclists, visitors can sample some of the fun and exciting attractions in and around Dahlonega, plus get a chance to pan for gold, learn about local vineyards and wineries and discover the many outdoor adventures to be had in Dahlonega and surrounding areas. The excitement will build when at approximately 2:45 pm the first cyclists will round the square and sprint to the finish line! No doubt, a thrilling day not to be missed!

First Festival of the Year:
Bear On The Square!

Believe it or not, there really was a "Bear On The Square" back in 1996 when a small cub wandered into the heart of Dahlonega and perched itself in a Sycamore tree on the Historic Square. After a prolonged effort, the bear was eventually rescued but not before creating quite a stir in the community! We've been celebrating the event ever since with our annual Bear On The Square Festival, April 15-17th. Now in its ninth year, the festival will feature bluegrass and old-time music, authentic mountain crafts, storytelling, dancing, children’s events, non-stop jamming, concerts, workshops and a country auction featuring folk art and gift items from Dahlonega’s merchants. Visit the official Bear On The Square Web site for details.
