Beat the Heat!
Ah yes, the dog days of summer! Intense heat and (at least here in the south) high humidity! Well, fortunately for us in the mountains of North East Georgia, we tend to stay a bit cooler. The higher elevations keep the humidity low, the temperatures cooler, and usually a light breeze moving through the trees. If you need to get any cooler, we have plenty of ways to beat the heat! Enjoy a relaxing Canoe, Kayak or Tubing trip down the Chestatee river, or take a whitewater trip along the Ocoee to the north. If you don't want your water flowing at all, Lake Lanier is close by with parks and beaches to enjoy.

Some Great Events Coming Up!
Our local Folkways Center is hosting some great events this August and September. As on every 1st Saturday of the month, the Folkways Center will be hosting The Dahlonega Mountain Music & Medicine Show. Its an old-fashioned radio show performed before a live audience, broadcast by WKHC 104.3 FM and revives for a modern audience the atmosphere and music of the area's past, using regionally-acclaimed old-time string bands and colorful vignettes to re-create a history beginning with the discovery of gold in 1828 and ending with the close of the golden age of radio around 1950. A very unique way to experience the area's history!

A HUGE Bluegrass Festival!!
We wanted to let you know about this event a little early since this is one not to miss! The Second Annual Dahlonega Bluegrass & Folkways Festival will be September 13, 14 and 15. This year's talent lineup includes Doc Watson (a bluegrass legend and of "O' Brother Where Art Thou" fame) Valerie Smith with Liberty Pike, Ronda Vincent and the Rage, plus the best regional and local talent. Great food, crafts and more will also be featured so this is an event for everyone! Do not miss it!
