The Place to Stay In May!!
WOW! We have a month FULL of fantastic events happening in and around Dahlonega! Festivals, Wine Tasting, Concerts, Art Shows and Studio Tours, History Exhibitions, Theatre, and more! We'll feature a few events in this newsletter (it's a big one!), but click on the links for more information or scroll down for a full listing of events and explanations. We have great availability for this month, so make your reservations now!

Taste the Great Grape Growing of North Georgia!
One of the most exciting events this month is the premier of the Georgia Wine Country Festival, May 18 from 11 am to 6 pm. You may not know it but North Georgia is quickly becoming wine country. This festival is a formal introduction to the many wineries in the area with the opportunity to tour the host winery grounds, Three Sister's Vineyards, taste the wines of many of North Georgia's wineries, enjoy gourmet food, live music, hot air balloons, a "Kid's Area" including animals, face painting, old time storytelling, and horse drawn wagon rides. Pair this with the Wildflower Festival of the Arts happening the same weekend for a great getaway!

Art on the Square, Art in the Studios,
Art in the Galleries, Art Everywhere!
If you enjoy art, then the month of May is for you! On May 4th the Dahlonega Art Alliance will present it's Second Annual Art on the Square Day - an artist encounter from noon to 4:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. The encounter is a get-together of artists of all levels and backgrounds to spend the day sketching, drawing, photographing, and painting, using the wonderful historic square as a backdrop. Artists will be setting up along the square in front of the many different historic buildings demonstrating and creating their artwork. In the event of bad weather, artists will move indoors inside the various shops and galleries on the square. Rain or shine, art happens!

During the weekend of May 11 & 12 the local Artists in and around Dahlonega are opening their doors for the 4th annual Artist Studio & Gallery Tour. The tour features seven studios and galleries for you to tour throughout the weekend offering the opportunity to see artists at work and tour the fine galleries that display their work. Free maps can be found at the Dahlonega Visitors Center or click over to the Dahlonega Art Alliance Website for complete details.

Later in the month, May 18 & 19 to be exact, the 2nd Annual Wildflower Festival of the Arts will be bringing the Southeast's finest artists and craftsmen surrounding Dahlonega's historic town square. This also is the same weekend as the Georgia Wine Country Festival and together would make a great weekend!

Music in May!
The Gazebo Concert Series starts off the Music in May with a concert in the park just off the Historic Square in Dahlonega the first Friday of each month at 7:00 pm from May to September. Pack a picnic, get something to go or just come, sit back and enjoy this relaxed concert in the park!

Mike Cross will return to Dahlonega May 18th for a special concert featuring his fiddle, 12-string bottleneck blues, fiery Irish jigs and a wealth of his own music and stories filled with backwoods humor characteristic of a Mark Twain or Will Rogers. There will also be a special 2:00PM live appearance earlier in the day at The Georgia Wine Country Festival at Three Sisters Vineyards & Winery in Frogtown/Dahlonega, GA.

The Music of May will be wrapped up by our monthly Mountain Music "Revue" with old-time Bluegrass and Mountain Music with humor, funny stories and tall tales at The Folkways Center of the Georgia Mountains. $8 at the door. For more information visit www.folkwayscenter.org or call 706-867-6710.

How 'Bout Some History!
We'll also have some great historical shows and attractions throughout the month including The Spring Frolic Rendezvous, May 10, 11 & 12, and the unique 1862 Civil War Encampment and Spring Garden Party where you will be picked up by a horse drawn carriage and swept into a Southern Garden Party during the trying times of the Civil War.
