Experience a Variety of Art Exhibitions Across North Georgia!
May is the month for Art here in Dahlonega and all over North Georgia! We'll begin with our own
Dahlonega Art Alliance, Art on the Square
Day, May 3rd with a gathering of artists of all levels and backgrounds spending the day sketching,
drawing, photographing and painting using the historic public square as a backdrop. The Dahlonega Art
Alliance also presents its forth annual Tour of Artist Studios, May 10 & 11, opening the doors of private
art studios to the public! Tour maps are available at the Dahlonega Welcome Center on the Square, and local area shops.
Wildflower Festival of the Arts on May 17th & 18th. This Festival has a reputation for its emphasis
on quality and unequaled "Southern hospitality" shown by the hosts and sponsors. A "Fine Arts
Marketplace" with over 70 juried artists tempt discriminating patrons with watercolors, oils,
pottery, jewelry, photography, fiber art, glass and many other mediums. A great event! |
Art in the Garden Festival
Just to the south of us, the Dawson County Arts Council will be hosting their Art in the Garden
Festival at the Historic Old Rock School in downtown Dawsonville. This will be another chance to
view quality artwork featuring garden related art, crafts, garden antiques and containers. May 3rd &

Meaders' Homeplace Pottery Celebration
To the east in Cleveland will be dozens of potters and exhibitors from throughout the south with new
and antique pottery at the old Meaders' Homeplace on May 10th. Turning Exhibitions and firing of the
late John Meaders wood fired kiln will be around 12:00 noon.

An Old Favorite...
We just can't say enough about the Mountain Music and Medicine Show! Every 1st Saturday of the month the Folkways Center hosts this live broadcast, hometown radio show featuring amazing talent! Each two-hour live show includes traditional mountain music, humor, spoken word, local history, theatre, preserving and promoting traditional mountain culture through the wit, wisdom, and fun of an old-time medicine show.

The Southern Off-Road Bicycle Association (SORBA) is pleased to announce the return of the Helen Fat
Tire Festival, May 16-18. This Mountain Biking Festival is geared to all levels and ages of riders. Events will included a Friday Night Ride to kick off the event and group rides, contests and a bike obstacle course on Saturday. Sunday will feature the Georgia MTB Series Cross County race and free Kids' Fun Race. Great prizes are awarded to the winners of the races, contests, and raffle. A fun, unique event to participate in or spectate at!
